The bones of this second-floor bath were fine. The finishes were the problem — a dark wood vanity with a tiled countertop, a tub surround showing its age, and a floor that had been down a long time.
This one did not need a gut. It needed the right things replaced. Out came the vanity, the counter and the surround. In went a frameless glass enclosure, which does more for a small bathroom than any other single change, because it lets the eye travel the whole room instead of stopping at a curtain.
New vanity with twin oval mirrors, new tile floor, new fixtures and lighting. About two weeks, and the room reads twice the size it did.
